About

/fresh ink/

Fresh Ink is a writing project and after school club hosted at Sunnyside High School in Tucson Arizona. The aim of Fresh Ink is to give students a chance to work on their writing and to publish their writing for a public audience. Students who participate in Fresh Ink are involved in many writing projects, including personal blogs, a group blog, digital stories, online publishing, fiction, poetry, personal writing, political writing, interviewing, drawing, photography and even some marketing.

All Fresh Ink students are freshman and members of the GEAR UP cohort class of 2012. GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. GEAR UP grants awarded across the United States fund college readiness activities designed to help secondary school students stay in school, graduate from high school, and enter college, university, or other postsecondary programs. GEAR UP consists of an academic course on college and career exploration; articulation activities such as advising and campus tours to smooth the transitions of middle school to high school and high school to college; work-based learning such as field trips, job shadowing, and internships; summer enrichment academies; parent workshops; and teacher professional development.
