Who I am, How you see me ~ Brisa Cota

Who I am, How you see me

They think I’m smart

They think I’m rude

They think I’m stuck up

But that’s not true

I might be short

That don’t mean I’m cruel

I might know some things

But they’re just a few

I wear glasses

So what

I get straight A’s

I’m not a nerd

That’s just what people heard

I’m not friendly

That’s a lie

People just think I’m shy

I sit down quietly in my desk

Just thinking about what to do best.

I loved this poem! So many interesting contrasts! You do a good job of getting past the stereotypes about girls in glasses, about students who like school. I like the short sentences–very powerful, dramatic effect. Simple sentences, but complex ideas. Nice! I love the last image of you sitting down quietly at your desk thinking…thanks, Peggy Jenkins, GEAR UP Writing Specialist
