My Life ~ Guillermo Rodriguez

My Life

Struggles through my life

Contains blood, sweat, and tears

Nobody knows what I see

Nobody knows what I hear

Grew up with a strong family

Now we are fallin apart

Now I stand alone

In a shadow without no love

Without no help just struggling on my own

I sit on my knees

Begging god please

I sit here in my room

Just frustrated

And confused

Not knowing what to do

Being played like a fool

Smile now, cry later

Tryin to hide my pain

All I think about Homie is material things

This is my life Homie

My everyday life

Guillermo,
Wow, what a very powerful poem. I love your use of repetition of “nobody knows” and “Homie” and your image of “blood, sweat, and tears.” Your phrase
“being played like a fool” has a lot of possible meanings–a girl, the universe, the god you beg please, your family–all or some of these are playing you like a fool? In any case, a great way to dramatize and express the hopeless feeling we all sometimes have that we are alone. Very mature subject. Thank you for your work and your help launching the zine!
